The Nigerian government has announced that it would establish film village in Kano, with the aim to create jobs and bring local films to high standard.

Member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, made the announcement during an interactive session with Kannywood filmmakers.
“The film village has cinematography centre, 400-capacity auditorium for training, hostel, sound stage, eatery block, three-star hotel, shopping mall, stadium, clinic, among others,”he said.
According to Jibrin, the Federal Government would release 1billion Naira for the kick off of the 20-hectare film village, which would be modeled like a film center in China and India.

According to Sani Mu’azu, who was once the president of Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria, the film village would create 4,500 jobs. “The centre would also boost the advertisement industry by production of first-rate commercials,”he said.
In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari promised that his government will look into piracy in Kannywood.

He made this known when some Kannywood delegates paid him a congratulatory visit in his home at Daura, Katsina State.
"I appreciate all that you have done; the beautiful campaign songs, the video jingles and the drama awareness on our party’s manifestos. They were all beautiful and I thank you.”- Buhari said.
The interactive session which kicked off the film village project had Ali Nuhu, Falalu Dorayi, Ummah Shehu, Rahama Sadau among others in attendance.
